How Arielle Chambers' Dedication to HighlightHer Helped Her Build a Career in Sports Journalism
In the digital age, virtual interviews have become the norm, and the hosts of the Law of Athlete podcast take full advantage of this technology to chat with the amazing Arielle Chambers. Tykera, one of the hosts, introduces Arielle as her mentor and an exceptional personality in the world of sports journalism. Tykera notes that Arielle's incredible character has helped propel her career and makes her the ideal person to speak on Law #8: Your Character Can Take You Places Your Talent Can't.
The conversation starts with another connection between the hosts and Arielle. Both Deonte and Arielle are NC State Alumni, and they proudly throw up the "Wolf" hand sign. Ced, one of the hosts, claims it is a llama and not a wolf, but he quickly gets back on Arielle's good side by asking her about the name change of HighlightHer. Arielle says that she came up with the name to play on words and connect to the umbrella brand. She notes that the name change took the platform to the next level and helped her explore different sports.
Arielle's dedication to HighlightHer proved her platform deserved more investment, and she was given the go-ahead to build a team to assist with her vision. She approaches her posting strategy by providing content based on what she would want to see as a woman and with different perspectives in mind. Arielle admits that there is some trial and error to finding the perfect strategy, but her mission is to tell stories and amplify the voices of players.
Arielle's experience as a freelancer helped her build a name for herself in the physical and social space. She believes that her way of storytelling creates her own mold for the industry, and this is evident in her extensive athletic resume, which included cheerleading, gymnastics, martial arts, volleyball, and more recently, her time as a professional dancer for Madison Square Gardens. She notes that her experience as a dancer put her in the presence of those she was trying to tell the stories about, and she leveraged her experiences to build her career.
The hosts and Arielle banter about their favorite WNBA teams, and Arielle emphasizes the importance of pushing an authentic narrative that is not forced. She believes that anyone can achieve what she has achieved as long as they are passionate and knowledgeable about their craft. Arielle encourages aspiring journalists to work hard and stay dedicated, and she notes that it's a constant grind to succeed in this industry.
The hosts wrap up the show and suggest a part two, knowing that they have only scratched the surface of Arielle's amazing accomplishments. Arielle enjoyed her time on the podcast and could "keekee" with the hosts all day. Overall, this conversation shows the power of character, hard work, and dedication in achieving success in the world of sports journalism.
